When any one of you enters the mosque, he should say:” O Allah! open for me the doors of Thy mercy” ; and when he steps out he should say: ‘O Allah! I beg of Thee Thy Grace.” Muslim

entering and leaving Masjid Dua - Explanation

This Hadith talks about two etiquettes of the mosque, which were guided by the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

The First etiquettes is related to entering the Mosque, as Prophet Muhammad, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, says: “If one of you enters the mosque,” meaning: he wants to enter it, when he reaches its door, “let him say: O God, open for me the doors of your mercy,” which includes everything, and this A plea to God to shower me with His mercy And to prepare for me good deeds that will be a reason for entering through the multiple doors of mercy.

Why do we ask mercy When entering the masjid?

The secret of singling out mercy as entry is that mercy in the Book of God means blessings related to the soul and the hereafter, as Allah Almighty said:

And the mercy of your Lord is better than what they gather. [Al-Zukhruf: 32]

whoever enters the mosque He seeks closeness to God, and is preoccupied with what will bring him closer to His reward and Paradise. This is appropriate to mention mercy.

The Second etiquettes It relates to leaving Masjid, so Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “and when he steps out he should say: ‘O Allah! I beg of Thee Thy Grace.” from Your lawful provision.

Why do we ask grace and bounty When leaving the masjid?

The secret of allocating Fadhl when coming out from masjid is that Fadhl mean؛ worldly blessings, as Allah Almighty said: {There is no blame upon you if you seek bounty from your Lord} [Al-Baqarah: 198], and Allah said: {So when the prayer is completed. So they dispersed throughout the land and sought God’s bounty} [Friday] : 10]. This is a supplication to God and an acknowledgment that He is the owner of great bounty upon His servants, and He is the Sustainer, and that He gives of His vast bounty without hesitation. Whoever comes out of Masjid is seeking sustenance.
