Dua for wearing and taking off the clothes with English Transliteration and translation

Wearing and taking off the clothes is a common practice which every person does on a daily basis. But what if we include Masnoon Adhkar in this process, we can get a lot of ajr. Daily masnoon adhkar is the best way to reach Allah subhanahu wata’ala.

In this blog post I’m going to explain All Duas related to wearing clothes and taking off in the light of Hadith. Reading these Duas is sunnah of Holy prophet Muhammad ﷺ . We should read these dua to follow the sunnah.

1 - Dua for wearing Clothes in Arabic and English

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ كَسَانِيْ هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيْهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِّنِّيْ وَلَا قُوَّةً

Transliteration: Alhamdu Lillahil-Lathi Kasaani Hathas sawba wa azaqaneehi min ghayri hawlim minnee wala Quw’wah.

English Translation: All Praise is for Allaah who has clothed me with this garment and provided me with it without any effort or power of mine.

Benefits of reading dua when wearing the clothes

Anyone who read this dua will be forgiven his former and later sins. Sahl bin Muaz (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ “‏ مَنْ أَكَلَ طَعَامًا ثُمَّ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا الطَّعَامَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ وَمَنْ لَبِسَ ثَوْبًا فَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone eats food and then says: “Praise be to Allah Who has fed me with this food and provided me with it through no might and power on my part,” he will be forgiven his former and later sins. If anyone puts on a garment and says: “Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with this and provided me with it through no might and power on my part,” he will be forgiven his former and later sins. Abudawud:4023

2 - Dua when wearing new clothes in Arabic and English

اَللّٰھُمَّ لَکَ الْحَمْدُ کَمَا کَسَوْتَنِیْهِ اَسْأَلُکَ خَیْرَہٗ وَخَیْرَ مَاصُنِعَ لَه وَاَعُوْذُبِکَ مِنْ شَرِّہٖ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَه

Transliteration: Allaahumma lakal-hamdu kama kasawtaneehi as’aluka khayrahu wa khayra maa suni’a lahu wa a’oothu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni’a lahu.

English Translation: O Allaah, for You is all praise, You have clothed me with it, I ask You for the good of it and the good for which it was made and I seek refuge with You from the evil of it and the evil for which it was made.

Hadith

Abu saeed Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ‏:‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، إِذَا اسْتَجَدَّ ثَوْبًا سَمَّاهُ بِاسْمِهِ عِمَامَةً أَوْ قَمِيصًا أَوْ رِدَاءً، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ‏:‏ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا كَسَوْتَنِيهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ‏.‏

“When Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) donned a new garment, he would call it by its name, then he would say: ‘O Allah praise be to You, as You have clothed me with it! I beg You for its goodness and the goodness of what it has been made for, and I take refuge with You from its evil and the evil of what it has been made for!’” Shamail: 61

3.1 - Dua when you see a Muslim wearing new clothes

اِلْبَسْ جَدِيْدًا وَعِشْ حَمِيْدًا وَمُتْ شَهِيْدًا

Transliteration: ilbas Jadeedan, wa esh Hameedan, wa mut shaheedanTublee wa Yukhlifullah

English Translation: May you wear new clothes, live a good life and die as martyr.

Hadith

Ibn Umer (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ رَأَى عَلَى عُمَرَ قَمِيصًا أَبْيَضَ فَقَالَ ‏”‏ ثَوْبُكَ هَذَا غَسِيلٌ أَمْ جَدِيدٌ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ بَلْ غَسِيلٌ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏”‏ الْبَسْ جَدِيدًا وَعِشْ حَمِيدًا وَمُتْ شَهِيدًا ‏”‏ ‏.‏

It was narrated from Ibn `Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw `Umar wearing a white shirt and he said: “Is this garment of yours washed or a new one?” He said: “Rather it has been washed.” He said: “Ilbas jadida, wa `ish hamida, wa mut shahida (May you wear new clothes, live a good life and die as martyr).” Ibn Majah:3558

3.2 - When you see a Muslim wearing new clothes

Pray with these words for your Muslim brohter or Sister when you see him/her wearing new clothes.

تُبْلِیْ وَ یُخْلِفُ اللّٰہُ

Transliteration: Tublee wa Yukhlifullah

English Translation: May you wear it out and Allah replace it with another.

Hadith

May Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

قَالَ أَبُو نَضْرَةَ فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا لَبِسَ أَحَدُهُمْ ثَوْبًا جَدِيدًا قِيلَ لَهُ تُبْلِي وَيُخْلِفُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ‏

Abu Nadrah said: When any of the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) put on a new garment, he was told: May you wear it out and may Allah give you another in its place. Abudawood

4 - Dua when taking off the clothes

بِسْمِ اللّٰہِ

Transliteration: Bismillah

English Translation: In the name of Allah.

We are asked to say Bismillah before every thing we do.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

عن أبي هريرة: كلُّ أمر ذي بالٍ لا يُبدَأُ بالحمد للَّهِ فَهوَ أقطعُ

Every important work that begins with the name of Allah will be blessed. Abudawud
